The world of Otoko is a beautiful place, with sandy beaches, majestic forests, and what’s more, Kito City. But behind Kito City lie many mysteries and a dark past; both which have made Otoko into the world it is today. Why do some men suddenly appear, claiming to be from other worlds, while others appear as new-born babies? Why is it not possible to leave this place?
Legend has it, that over a thousand years ago, a race of people called the Nazir helped reign over Kito, for they were granted with a power that no other had; the ability to govern over the dead souls that had once lived in their world. Souls in Kito were reused after their departure, bringing forth new life after death. The people rarely looked the same, but underneath, they were merely a reincarnate of their former selves.
But the Nazir wanted more power, the ability to create new souls instead of recycling the old. They wanted to give their people eternal rest instead of a never ending life. In their attempt to expand their powers, they opened a portal to other worlds, taking the souls of their dead and dying, and bringing them back to life in Otoko. When the tribe realized what they had done by bringing in strangers to their world, they cursed themselves and immediately began to work on reparations to what they had done. But, not everyone wanted to leave.
The tribe looked down on these outside races as inferiors and detrimental to their world, while the outsiders shot back that the Nazir were merely an occult with a god-complex. Conflicts arose between the outsiders and the Nazir, but it didn’t reach the breaking point until one fateful day. Legend says that one of the cruel outsiders from another world murdered a Nazirian boy. It was then that the fighting would begin.
One hundred years later, the remaining members of the tribe were beaten and broken, and Kito City was nothing but ruins. The outsiders banded together to form a new Kito, and banished was left of the Nazir from the city for eternity. Few had survived, and now that they were too few in number and power to regain control of the portals, all hope seemed lost to the once proud race. To add onto their shame, the citizens of New Kito gradually grew to forget the bitter feelings between themselves and the Nazir, only to associate them with ‘the ruins people.’
But the people in the ruins did not forget. And now, a thousand years later, they have gathered together to fight back once more, using what was once thought to be lost documentation of how to control souls, and the five remaining ancestors of the original Nazir. They are determined to send them back at any costs, whether its through the portals themselves, or in death.
